Erik Lamela has taken to Twitter to respond to Benjamin Mendy’s tweet recounting the incident between the two during Spurs’ defeat to Manchester City on Monday night.

Lamela and Mendy were involved in a very late clash at Wembley which culminated in the Manchester City defender seemingly throwing a punch at the Tottenham star.

Many expected the left-back to be reprimanded for the incident – despite no contact being made – but it was announced that he would face no retrospective action as the clash was seen by one of the assistant referees.

One Tottenham fan reached out to Mendy on social media to ask him about the incident and whether he regrets aiming a punch at Lamela – who missed a glorious chance in the latter stages of Monday’s game that would have seen Mauricio Pochettino’s side equalise.

Mendy insisted that the two players had spoken after the game, and that prompted Lamela to respond to the £52 million full-back, adding that there were absolutely no problems between the two.

Lamela could have a fantastic opportunity to quickly put his miss on Monday behind him if he is picked in the Spurs team that take on West Ham in the last 16 of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night.
