Tottenham Hotspur defender Ben Davies has told The Mirror that he would welcome Gareth Bale back to the club this summer – but isn’t sure how possible a deal would be.

Wales were in action this afternoon, meaning Bale and Davies were featuring together, but it was Daniel James who stole the headlines, scoring the winner in a 1-0 victory over Slovakia.

Bale, 29, will have been glad to play in front of an adoring crowd again, given that he is being absolutely slated by Real Madrid fans and even the Spanish press right now.

Lukewarm displays coupled with a perceived lack of desire to integrate with his teammates – even after nearly six years at the Santiago Bernabeu – means a summer exit could be on the cards.

A move back to the Premier League may be appealing, and some would love him to be Tottenham’s marquee signing for the big move into their new stadium.

The money involved seemingly rules Spurs out though, barring a staggering turn of events and approach from chairman Daniel Levy, so most have ruled it out completely.

Now though, Wales teammate and Spurs ace Davies has admitted that he would love to see Bale return to Tottenham, feeling that the criticism he receives at Real Madrid is totally unfair.

Davies noted that Bale is ‘brilliant’ and one of the best players around, but admitted that he doesn’t know how likely it is that Spurs can bring in Bale this summer.

“He’s come under a bit of flak at Madrid recently, but for Wales he’s always been brilliant,” said Davies. “I’m always going to say it’s unfair, he is one of the best players in the world, we see it every day in training. I’d definitely have him at Tottenham. But I don’t know how likely that is,” he added.
