Emerson Royal bounced back in style for Tottenham Hotspur today.
Spurs got back to winning ways by beating Aston Villa 2-1 in North London.
The Brazilian had a poor game in last weekend’s derby defeat by Arsenal but he posted a fine display against Dean Smith’s side.
In fact, Emerson, who joined Tottenham from Barcelona, had probably his finest game since arriving in England during the summer.
But for non-football reasons, he also committed something in the nature of taboo midway through the victory.
According to Football London, the former Barcelona right-back swapped shirts with compatriot Douglas Luiz before both players went into their respective dressing rooms at half time.
Emerson is fortunate that this wasn’t one of Sky Sports’ games because Roy Keane – who is on the panel today – has previously revealed his dislike for this sort of practice.
Back in 2016, he labelled it ‘shocking‘ when Eden Hazard and Angel di Maria swapped jerseys midway through a Champions League clash between Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain.
Keane isn’t alone because it’s likely that Lilywhites fans will also raise an eyebrow at it.
But seen as he’s still fresh to English football, and he played well, the supporters might overlook it…..this time.
