Tottenham Hotspur’s inability to bring in any summer signings means that fans will be expecting many 2019 additions – but they shouldn’t turn their nose up at two targets.

Spurs need depth signings all over the pitch, especially in central midfield, whilst another centre forward may be wanted with Fernando Llorente out of contract next summer.

Mauricio Pochettino will be looking far and wide for players to fit the bill, and whilst fans may have lofty ambitions about new signings, two players mired in La Liga’s midtable may fit the bill.

Over the summer, the London Evening Standard reported that Tottenham want to bring Celta Vigo midfielder Stanislav Lobotka to North London, and El Pais now claim that Celta striker Maxi Gomez is the latest name on Tottenham’s wish list.

Celta sit in 14th place in La Liga this season, and whilst signing two players from them may not seem too exciting for Spurs fans who watch their elite rivals sign big names, they could be ideal additions for Pochettino and co.

24-year-old Lobotka is a diminutive, creative midfielder in the mould of ex-Spurs star Luka Modric, and would bring real class to Pochettino’s engine room, possessing real quality on the ball to not only pick out a pass, but also carry the ball with confidence.

Meanwhile, Uruguayan hitman Gomez has great power, aerial ability and finishing prowess, representing an ideal player to compete with Harry Kane and replace Llorente in the Spurs attack.

A double deal for the pair would cost around £60million, but have real quality far beyond 14th place in the La Liga table, and would be far more exciting additions than they would appear at first.
