Juventus midfielder Miralem Pjanic rejected Tottenham when he was with Roma but they went on to sign Mousa Dembele from Fulham instead.
Mousa Dembele put in yet another brilliant performance for Tottenham Hotspur as they came from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 with Juventus in the first-leg of their Champions League last-16 tie.
Dembele has been instrumental in Spurs’ recent victories against Arsenal and Manchester United and draw with Liverpool in the Premier League and has now helped the North Londoners turn this clash with Juve back in their favour.
The 30-year-old is approaching six years with the club after joining from Fulham in the summer 2012 and has developed into the beating heart of their central midfield, linking defence with attack.
At the time Tottenham were looking for a replacement for Luka Modric following his switch to Real Madrid and it seems as if current star of the Juventus Stadium, Miralem Pjanic, was their first choice when they tried to sign the midfielder from Roma.
“There was the opportunity but at that moment I told them I was happy where I was and that’s why we didn’t sign the deal,” Pjanic told the Telegraph.
“But I made my choice using my head and if I made that choice not to go to an English team it was for good reasons.”
In the end they turned to the Belgium international three days before the transfer window shut and while Pjanic is an undoubtedly talented player, would the Bosnian have been worth missing out on Dembele for?
