Tottenham Hotspur have signed as many as seven first teamers on extended deals since the end of last season, but there are two big names who are missing so far.
Hugo Lloris and Harry Kane – Tottenham Hotspur lead team out
Tottenham have done hugely impressive work since the summer with regards to tying down their first team stars to improved and extended contracts.
This week saw first choice fullbacks Danny Rose and Kyle Walker agree new deals with the club, while Mauricio Pochettino has hinted that Belgian international Jan Vertonghen is next in line for a new deal (Eir Sport) – possibly the most pressing contract to be addressed considering the 29-year-old’s current deal expires in 2018.
But if, as expected, the former Ajax man also extends his Spurs stay, the North Londoners next port of call will surely be rewarding arguably their two highest profile players: Hugo Lloris and Harry Kane.
Tottenham’s Hugo Lloris
Captain Lloris has, probably more than any other current Spurs man, been linked with other clubs throughout his time in the Premier League, no surprise considering he arrived as a top class player and has only improved upon that judgement in his four years at White Hart Lane.
Lloris’ contract is up in 2019, while talisman Kane’s in 2020, and though neither is a cause for concern, Tottenham would certainly have reason to try and keep their skipper at the club for more than one season at the new stadium.
Tottenham’s Harry Kane
Considering his importance in Pochettino’s side, Spurs should also bump Kane up to the very top tier of earners, alongside the France star, and lay the path for the striker to remain at the club for the entirety of his career.
In truth, both deserve improved terms following on from last season, just like the rest of the first team who have seen their contracts improved.
It is a tactics champions Leicester City have also employed after their astonishing league win, and it helped the Foxes keep almost the entirety of their squad intact. With Spurs a bigger club than their rivals for the championship last year, and with a new stadium on the horizon, Daniel Levy and the Tottenham board are doing a great job of showing current and potential players that there are, at present, few better places to be in the Premier League than White Hart Lane.
