Tottenham Hotspur continue to be linked with Benjamin Pavard.

According to TEAMtalk, Tottenham Hotspur have contacted Stuttgart about a possible deal for defender Benjamin Pavard – but Spurs should be looking to get creative.
Pavard, 22, was one of the stars of the World Cup having edged out Djibril Sidibe to become France’s first-choice right back, and he helped his country clinch the World Cup trophy.
The Stuttgart star – who scored a stunning goal against Argentina in the last 16 – was impressive throughout, even though he’s naturally a centre back and was effectively playing out of position.
Pavard is now being linked with a whole host of clubs, and TEAMtalk report that Tottenham have contacted Stuttgart to discuss a possible deal for the defender.
Yet with so many clubs interested, Tottenham should be looking to take a leaf out of Liverpool’s book by replicating their move for RB Leipzig’s Naby Keita.
Last summer, the Reds knew that Keita had a release clause which only came into effect in 2018, but decided to strike a deal with Leipzig whereby they paid a small premium on the release clause in order to guarantee his signature for this summer, ruling out any other clubs.

Pavard is thought to be in a similar situation, having a release clause of £31million which can be activated next summer, and Spurs should be looking to get creative, just like their Premier League rivals.
Allowing Stuttgart to keep the World Cup winner for another year but earning above his release clause should be hugely appealing to the Bundesliga side, and Tottenham should be looking to close a deal at around £40million to sign Pavard in 2019, landing a successor to Toby Alderweireld before any clubs can pounce on his release clause next year.
