Juventus are attempting to secure the signature of Aleksandr Golovin.

Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino wanted to get signings tied up before the World Cup began in order to prevent top targets from catching the eye of ‘bigger’ clubs, but no deals materialised.

The Argentinian will have been watching the tournament though, and some players may have popped onto his radar off the back of their performances in Russia.

Colombian duo Wilmar Barrios and Juan Fernando Quintero have both been linked with the club, but a star player of the host nation should also be on Pochettino’s wish list this summer.

Playmaker Aleksandr Golovin came into the tournament having starred with CSKA Moscow, hitting seven goals and six assists last season, including a superb free kick in the Europa League against Arsenal.

The 22-year-old midfielder has continued that form with Russia at the World Cup, notching a superb free kick against Saudi Arabia as well as two assists, producing promising displays in his first two games of the competition.

Golovin’s displays are attracting interest, with Gianluca Di Marzio reporting that Juventus have offered €19million (£17million) for his signature, and Tottenham should be looking to rival that bid.

CSKA allegedly want closer to the region of £22million to £26million of Golovin, and even those numbers are within Tottenham’s budget, even with Daniel Levy controlling the finances.

Tottenham will be looking for an alternative creative option to Christian Eriksen as well as a central midfielder to play deeper, but Golovin can play either role, possessing great technical attributes and set piece ability like Eriksen, but also superb work rate and stamina, making him potentially perfect for Pochettino – and Spurs must be looking to make a move this summer.
