Tottenham Hotspur seem to be in the market for a winger this month.

Yes, Spurs have quite a lot of wide options, but none of them are really pulling up any trees under Jose Mourinho this season.

Erik Lamela is regularly injured and Lucas, Gareth Bale and Lucas Moura have a combined 10 goals and nine assists across all competitions.

It just isn’t good enough and according to Estadio Deportivo, the North Londoners are among the clubs interested in Marseille winger Florian Thauvin.

And despite flopping at Newcastle United as a much younger player, perhaps it’s a good time for the Frenchman to return to the Premier League.

That’s because the 28-year-old has six goals and nine assists for the French giants across all competitions. All six have come in Ligue 1 and seven of his assists have come in the league, too.

Cynics might point to the fact that his form in France’s top flight means little when it comes to Premier League, especially as he has already failed in England.

But France has a lot of talented attacking players and nobody has set up more goals than the former Magpies man, who also has more goals and assists than Angel di Maria, who many Spurs fans would love going by name alone.

In any case, the salient point is that Tottenham’s wide players aren’t doing enough and Thauvin, in his own league, is crushing the likes of Bale and Lucas when it comes to statistics.

Maybe, just maybe, this wouldn’t be a bad move.
