Tottenham Hotspur ended the January transfer window without making any signings, meaning they have now gone more than a year without an addition.

Simply put, Mauricio Pochettino needs signings this summer. The Spurs squad is currently faring well, but some fresh faces would be a major boost for now and for the future.

The Mirror now report that Spurs want to land Norwich City ace Max Aarons, having been scouting the right back this season, producing ‘glowing’ scout reports on him.

The 19-year-old is allegedly valued at around £15million, and if Spurs do push for the young Englishman, then it could spell bad news for Serge Aurier and Kieran Trippier.

Of the two, Aurier would be most likely to go. A signing from Paris Saint-Germain 18 months ago, Aurier was supposed to be the perfect replacement for Kyle Walker, but it hasn’t really panned out that way.

The 26-year-old has made just five Premier League starts this season and was hooked at half time against Watford last week, with the Ivorian clearly behind Trippier in the pecking order. If Aarons comes in, the writing would certainly be on the wall for Aurier.

In truth, Spurs may actually need two right backs in the near future, with Aarons just a start. The brutal truth is that Trippier has been disappointing this season, failing to build on an impressive World Cup for England, and he shouldn’t feel too safe at Spurs just yet.

At 28, Trippier’s value was probably at its highest last summer after his fine World Cup, and it’s hard to see Spurs finding a buyer to pay big money for the right back, who has frustrated many fans this season.

Trippier’s homegrown status gives him an edge over Aurier, but Aarons would surely be eyed up as Trippier’s successor – and if we have learned anything under Pochettino, it’s that young players can make the step up over more experienced players.
