Tottenham are reportedly keen on Lyon forward Maxwel Cornet.

According to The Mirror, Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Lyon forward Maxwel Cornet – but he hasn’t been without his struggles this term.

With Fernando Llorente finding the net just once for Spurs since his deadline day move from Swansea City, manager Mauricio Pochettino may be keen to bring in more attacking firepower in 2018.

A versatile forward who can play out wide or up front may be ideal, and despite moves for Georges-Kevin Nkoudou and Clinton N’Jie ultimately reaping no rewards, Spurs appear to be eyeing another Ligue 1 attacker.

The Mirror claim that Spurs want to land Lyon’s Maxwel Cornet given his £7million release clause, after notching two goals and three assists in 15 appearances this season.

Ivory Coast international Cornet, 21, has shown flickers of potential with Lyon, but with just six league starts to his name, it hasn’t been the easiest season for him.

Manager Bruno Genesio has been forced to defend Cornet this season amid strong fan criticism – and the forward himself had to respond to whistling and chants against him earlier this month.

As quoted by RMC Sport, Cornet suggested that the personal criticism is simply part of football, and he wants to turn things around on a personal level, but mostly wanted the team to succeed.

“It’s the nature of football,” he said, “The truth is that on the field, it’s up to me to turn this situation around to being decisive for the team and being effective, I’m not worried. I do not blame them, they are fans, they are there to see the show, the most important thing is that the team is doing well, and when things are not so good, they express their dissatisfaction,” he added.

With fans seemingly not exactly enamoured with Cornet, Lyon supporters may be hoping that Tottenham do sign him, leaving Pochettino to try and develop a player who has been frustrating at times.
