Spurs reportedly want Besiktas striker Cenk Tosun, but Crystal Palace must battle for him again

Crystal Palace and Tottenham Hotspur reportedly want Besiktas hitman Cenk Tosun.

The summer transfer window may have only recently closed, but some clubs are already looking towards the January transfer window for possible signings.

The Daily Mail report that Tottenham Hotspur are keeping tabs on Besiktas hitman Cenk Tosun, with Crystal Palace and Newcastle recently interested in signing the Turkish international.

Tosun, 26, has hit 52 goals in 123 games for Besiktas since signing from Gaziantepspor in 2014, and hit the headlines last season with 24 goals in all competitions.

The German-born Turkish international has thrived in recent years, and has got off to a good start this season with two goals in five games – and his form is attracting major interest.

However, whilst Tottenham may be interested in landing him, it’s Crystal Palace who need him much, much more heading towards the January transfer window.

Palace have yet to score a single goal in the Premier League this season, and the pressure appears to be weighing on Christian Benteke, who is Palace’s only recognised striker right now.

Sitting bottom of the table with no points and no goals, Palace desperately need another goalscoring outlet in January, and Tosun – at a price of around £17.5million – represents an all-round striker who can either play alongside Benteke or instead of him, taking some of the burden off the Belgian ace.

Convincing him to trade in Champions League football for a relegation battle could be a problem though, and that’s where Tottenham will feel that they have a major advantage, despite possibly being unable to offer the same first-team promises.

Harry Kane is Tottenham’s undoubted first-choice striker, whilst deadline day signing Fernando Llorente gives Pochettino another option, which could make Tosun third-choice if Spurs do move for him.

All things considered, it’s Palace who need to be in the market for Tosun again having failed in the summer, and they should go head-to-head with Spurs in January.
