Tottenham Hotspur appear to be closing in on a deal to sign Nottingham Forest attacker Brennan Johnson ahead of the deadline.

Nottingham Forest attacker Brennan Johnson is now closing in a move to Tottenham Hotspur.

That is according to multiple reports this morning with Tottenham seemingly edging closer and closer to a deal.

Fabrizio Romano claims that the negotiations for Johnson to join Tottenham are ‘advancing’ and the deal is now ‘getting closer’.

The Times’ Gary Jacob claims that Johnson is now close to joining Tottenham in a deal worth more than £40million.

Sami Mokbel of the Daily Mail also claims that Spurs and Forest are close to an agreement with the ‘deal moving quickly’.

The Telegraph also claim that a deal worth £50million including add-ons and bonuses is close with Johnson now expected to undergo a medical very soon.

This rumoured move has been going on for weeks now and it looks like Tottenham are now getting close to Forest’s demands.

A swap deal has been suggested but with no reports of a player heading the other way, it looks like this could be straight cash for Johnson.

Why Tottenham want to sign Brennan Johnson

Tottenham were always likely to add another attacker having sold Harry Kane to Bayern Munich earlier this month.

Rather than sign a centre forward, Tottenham have gone down the route of signing a versatile attacker in Johnson.

The Welsh international has played on both flanks and as a striker, so he brings major flexibility for Ange Postecoglou.

Johnson also counts as a homegrown player, which is vital with Tottenham needing to boost their numbers in that regard.

A key factor is that Johnson has blistering speed.

Tottenham don’t really have anybody with that kind of pace in their attack and Johnson bring something different to Postecoglou’s setup.

Johnson – praised as ‘special’ by Glenn Murray – has big potential at just 22 as well, with Tottenham believing that he can make a big impact for years to come.
