Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly plotting the eight-figure bid as they look to beat Manchester United to his signature.

It has now been more than a year since Mauricio Pochettino was able to celebrate Spurs landing a new signing, with the last two transfer windows passing without Tottenham making a single addition to their senior squad.

But it appears that the Premier League high-flyers plan to make up for lost time when the summer arrives, as the Daily Mirror is reporting that Spurs are plotting a £50 million move for Bournemouth’s David Brooks.

Brooks has enjoyed a remarkable first season in the top flight, scoring six goals and contributing four assists for the Cherries following his £11.5 million move from Sheffield United.

The Daily Mirror reports that Manchester United are now keen on the Wales international, and that could tempt Tottenham to make a bid that would make Brooks their record signing if he ended up joining (via Transfermarkt).

The Mirror reports that Brooks has been on Spurs’ radar since his days at Bramall Lane, and there are questions coming from the scouting department asking why the club never stepped up their interest in the 21-year-old before his move to the Vitality Stadium.

It appears that Tottenham will look to rectify that mistake when the next window opens. Unfortunately for Daniel Levy however, it appears that he will have to pay almost five times more than what he would have spent had he bagged Brooks’ signature in the summer.

Based on the way that the youngster has adapted to life in the Premier League, it could still prove to be a real bargain. Brooks is creative, exciting and clearly has serious quality.

A £50 million fee would pile the pressure on. But Brooks arguably has the potential to be the kind of signing that Spurs need as they look to move on from a quiet 12 months in the transfer market.
