Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly made an opening £25m offer for Jack Grealish but, in today’s market, how much is the Aston Villa midfielder really worth?

Tottenham Hotspur have finally made an offer for long term target Jack Grealish, with the Telegraph reporting they have bid £25m for the Aston Villa midfielder.

Whether or not the Championship club accept it or not is another matter, especially considering Villa are in a much more comfortable position financially since the recent takeover by billionaires Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens.

Grealish is understood to be keen on the move, but in a transfer market that has become increasingly inflated over the past 12 months, when compared to similar deals this summer how much is the 22-year-old actually worth?

Adama Traore to Wolves, £18m

Same age as Grealish, played for the Villans in the Premier League, similar amount of appearances in the division, just moved from the Championship to the top tier – the duo are certainly comparable.

Where it does become difficult to compare, however, is the fact that Wolverhampton Wanderers activated an £18m (BBC) release clause in the winger’s contract, so Middlesbrough may have valued him at far higher.

Richarlison to Everton, £35m

In truth, depending on performance related add-ons this deal could become a club record one at the Toffees with it potentially reaching £50m (BBC).

The Brazilian may have already been a Premier League player at Watford, but only has one year’s experience in the division (equating to a similar amount of appearances to Grealish – 38 compared to 34) so the Birmingham club could point to this transfer when making this valuation.

James Maddison to Leicester, £24m

Perhaps the most similar move made during this window, Leicester City paid a fee that could rise to £24m (BT) for a player who currently has no Premier League experience.

Grealish has admittedly only played 34 times in England’s top flight as he arguably struggled to fulfill his potential after initially breaking into the Villa first team.

Last term the duo both performed admirably and maybe this is the best benchmark to use for a price, making Spurs’ offer seem realistic perhaps?
