Though Harry Kane and Dele Alli steal most of the headlines, does another Tottenham Hotspur midfielder deserve more credit?

After the disappointment of missing out on their first Premier League title last season, Tottenham Hotspur needed to approach the 16/17 Premier League campaign with positivity and verve. Their energy, running and non-stop attacking football took them so close to title glory, and many Spurs fans believed that, if they could get the best out of their talented squad, the club may well be in the frame for another title charge this season.

And if it weren’t for Chelsea’s outstanding form this season, Spurs could well do it. Currently sat in third, just one point behind second placed Arsenal, the season certainly isn’t over for Tottenham Hotspur yet, as they remain hot on the heels of their London rivals.

Just like last season, it’s been the usual names who have been getting the headlines for this impressive Spurs side. Harry Kane, who has blown the theory that he was a one season wonder well out of the water, continues to lead the line better than most in the Premier League. England teammates Dele Alli and Danny Rose, who have improved massively under Mauricio Pochettino, have also been grabbing the plaudits. But is one particular Spurs player being overlooked?

Moving to White Hart Lane in 2013 from German side Bayer Leverkusen, South Korean international Son Hueng-min had a steady start to his Tottenham Hotspur career. Taking his time to adapt to Spurs’ fast paced midfield, Son Heung-min looks to have finally found his place in Pochettino’s side now, operating as the hard-working wideman, and supporters are certainly picking up on his influence.

His playing style, which is direct and fast, complements Alli and Eriksen perfectly, and after scoring 7 goals this season in 19 league appearances, the South Korean is proving to be lethal from midfield.

So why isn’t Son Hueng-min getting the credit he deserves? This could well be down to the player’s attitude and playing style. Unlike some Premier League players, Son Hueng-min doesn’t get carried away with the occasion. Completely focused on the job at hand, the South Korean attacker is one of the hardest working players in this Spurs side, and often his contributions to the team, in terms of pulling apart oppositions defences with his runs and movement, goes unnoticed.

However, one man who hasn’t missed this Mauricio Pochettino, and it’s his opinion that matters most. Spurs fans will undoubtedly be delighted to see yet another Pochettino signing coming to fruition.
