Tottenham Hotspur beat Middlesbrough 1-0 at White Hart Lane on Saturday evening.

Tottenham Hotspur remain nine points behind league leaders Chelsea after a 1-0 home win over Middlesbrough on Saturday evening.

Chelsea had beaten London rivals Arsenal 3-1 at Stamford Bridge earlier on Saturday, leaving Spurs under pressure to pick up three points against a usually resilient Boro side.

Tottenham were in the ascendancy for most of the game but missed a number of chances before Harry Kane converted a second half penalty to win the game, after Heung-min Son had been fouled inside the area.

Middlesbrough did have late chances to claim a point as Alvaro Negredo and Marten de Roon both sent efforts wide of the post, but Tottenham managed to hang on for all three points at White Hart Lane.

The result means Tottenham stay on the tail of Chelsea, but with a nine point gap to top spot, Spurs still have plenty of ground to make up on their London rivals.

After the game, Tottenham players took to Twitter to react to the victory, with goalscorer Kane celebrating a ‘great team performance’ whilst claiming that the three points were all that mattered.

Midfielder Moussa Sissoko, who came on as a second half substitute, added that he was pleased to stay in the race for the title with Saturday’s win, keeping the pressure on Chelsea.

The likes of Ben Davies, Victor Wanyama and Toby Alderweireld also sent messages to fans, celebrating a win that takes Tottenham to nine Premier League games without defeat.
