There were some good performances as Tottenham Hotspur beat Crystal Palace on Sunday afternoon.
Hugo Lloris – 8/10
The Frenchman made some athletic and important saves. Without him, Tottenham’s clean sheet would have been in serious doubt.
Ben Davies – 6/10
Didn’t really stand out in a good way, gave the ball away a bit and had a wasteful shot in the first half.
Jan Vertonghen – 6.5/10
Didn’t look too troubled, despite the pace Crystal Palace possess. Palace simply didn’t utilise that pace.
Toby Alderweireld – 6.5/10
Looks more comfortable alongside Vertonghen after a few games together. The Spurs defenders need to be on their toes against more testing opposition as they have been sloppy at times so far this season. Here, though, they were untroubled.
Kyle Walker – 6.5/10
One poor first-half cross aside, the right-back looked good against Crystal Palace, delivering some very nice long passes, too.
Dele Alli – 8/10
Heung-Min Son stole the headlines but very few failed to notice just how good Alli looked in central midfield. It’s no wonder he’s being tipped for a huge career.
Eric Dier – 7/10
More solid form from the centre-back being played in central midfield. Like Walker, Dier delivered the odd peach of a long ball and played well throughout.
Nacer Chadli – 6/10
Looked a little more threatening than usual at first but was, in the end, anonymous. The Tottenham winger has been in desperate need of a rest for some time now.
Heung-Min Son – 8/10
All match, Spurs’ new star looked lively and got himself into great positions. For most of the Palace clash, though, he lacked end product. Until his goal. Mauricio Pochettino made the right decision playing him up top in Europe to get his confidence up in time for this match.
Erik Lamela – 7.5/10
When the Argentine registered an assist against Sunderland last week, the inevitable question was whether he could keep it up. Here was a second Premier League game in a row in which Lamela played well, meaning he’s defying the expectations his own poor form over the last two seasons has created.
Harry Kane – 5/10
Sadly, this was perhaps the first match of the season where the Tottenham striker genuinely had a rather bad game. His touch looked poor, as well as his decision making. It could be confidence, fatigue or any number of factors. We know Kane is a phenomenal player but, here, he disappointed.
Substitutes
Christian Eriksen – 7/10
Made the difference straight after coming on, assisting Son for the goal.
Clinton Njie and Tom Carroll were also introduced late on with only a few minutes to play.
