Manchester United have reportedly slapped an £80m price-tag on Anthony Martial so is the only way Spurs can now sign him is in a swap deal involving Toby Alderweireld?

Martial has failed to convince Red Devils manager Jose Mourinho of his worth to the squad, particularly since the arrival of Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal during the January transfer window.

Spurs out of the running?
Only a few weeks ago the Mirror also reported that Tottenham Hotspur could no longer afford the Frenchman following a £75m price-tag being put on his head.

So surely there is no way the North Londoners could now smash their transfer record to land Martial now that the 22-year-old is reportedly valued at £5m more?
However, Tottenham could still have one final hope in their pursuit of the forward and that is Manchester United’s own interest in Toby Alderweireld.

As the Manchester Evening News reports, a £55m offer from Old Trafford for Alderweireld has already been rejected by Spurs as they hold out for £75m – the same amount Liverpool paid for Virgil van Dijk.
It is unlikely they would receive that for the defender in usual circumstances, but if some swap deal involving the Belgium international and Martial could be negotiated it could suit all parties.
