Manchester United look set to sign a left-back this summer, but will Celtic or Tottenham be the club they raid?

It seems almost inevitable that Manchester United will sign a new left-back this summer, with manager Jose Mourinho unconvinced Luke Shaw has what it takes to play in his system.

As a result usual right-back Matteo Darmian has often been required to fill in, but there are two transfer targets for the Red Devils that could be signed to solve the problem – Danny Rose or Kieran Tierney.

So would the Tottenham Hotspur or Celtic defender be the best option for Mourinho?

Danny Rose

According to the Express, United could sign Rose if they meet the North London club’s £30m valuation of the player.

Named in the PFA Team of the Year for the second season running in 2016/17, Rose’s reputation has certainly risen under Mauricio Pochettino and his expected price-tag reflects that.

However, it is as a wing-back that the 26-year-old that has truly flourished – a system Mourinho does not favour – and although the transfer pot will be large this summer, perhaps the Portuguese will be prioritising the big money elsewhere on the pitch.

An impressive year with Celtic has seen many teams south of the Scottish border take notice of the 19-year-old and he certainly looks to have a bright future in the game.

The Metro reports that even Sir Alex Ferguson has backed the move for his fellow Scot by his former club and his arrival could be the best move for Shaw as well.

Rose would certainly be ahead of Shaw in the pecking order, but Tierney and the England international competing and rotating could be an interesting option for Mourinho in another bumper season of fixtures.
