Belief is growing that Spurs, Leeds United and Leicester City target Mikkel Damsgaard will be a Premier League player next season with the Euro 2020 star’s agent in talks with a number of English clubs, Calciomercato reports.
A fortnight ago, Sampdoria president Massimo Ferrero insisted the market value of his prized asset had increased substantially after a couple of eye-catching displays in the Euro 2020 group stages.
“At least £30 million. If he scores again, he will reach £40 million,” Ferrero said.
So as Damsgaard wheeled away in celebration at a stunned Wembley Stadium, his 30-yard free-kick nestling in the back of Jordan Pickford’s net, Ferrero’s eyes must have turned into dollar signs in a scene straight out of a Looney Tunes cartoon.
Ka-ching and all that.
Could Euro 2020 star Damsgaard head to Spurs or Leeds?
According to SampNews24, Fabio Paratici is keen to bring the Denmark international to Tottenham Hotspur after Damsgaard caught his eye during a breakthrough 2020/21 Serie A season.
The former Nordsjaelland youngster has also been linked with West Ham United, Leicester, Southampton, Crystal Palace and Leeds, not to mention a host of Serie A clubs.
And while Damsgaard has previously suggested he’s wary about leaving Sampdoria too soon, it seems one of the most exciting young forwards on the continent is edging ever closer to the exit.
Calciomercato reports a number of Premier League sides have entered talks with his agent and expectation is growing that Damsgaard will be showing off his searing pace and spectacular set-pieces on British soil next season.
“His technique is a little bit Ronaldo-esque,” Nordsjaelland owner Tom Vernon told Goal.
“We saw that in the goal against Russia (in the group stages), where he doesn’t follow through in the normal way. We all know that’s his bread and butter so it was pretty cool to see him doing it in such a big game.”
There was certainly something “Ronaldo-esque” about the way Damsgaard sent a 30-yard thunderbolt crashing into the roof of the net during the Euro 2020 semi-finals too.
Cristiano would be proud. Spurs fans should be excited.
