The 19-year-old is eager to work hard and get more first team opportunities under Mauricio Pochettino.
Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Harry Winks has been discussing his hopes for this season with the club website, after being selected within the Spurs first team squad by Mauricio Pochettino and giving a squad number reflecting his position.
Winks has only made one appearance for the senior side, when he was involved in last season’s match with Partizan Belgrade in November, but it is very likely that further chances will come his way in both Europe and the domestic cups this time round.
“I’ve been with the first team squad this season and of course, I’m hoping to get an opportunity,” Winks told the Spurs site.
And the 19-year-old indicated he is willing to work hard and be patient in order to get his next game time, with a chance to impress in this international break for the England Under-20 side an important opportunity in his development.
“Obviously I have to do well in Under-21 games and internationals as well and when I get back I’ll continue to work hard in training and try to get that opportunity,” he added. “There are a lot of games coming up so hopefully it will work out.
“In the meantime, it’s always an honour to be called into the national squad and the Under-20s is another big step for me. I really enjoy playing for my country and these games against the Czech Republic will be a big test.”
The midfielder made his first appearance for England Under-20s in Saturday’s 5-0 win over Czech Republic. Winks came on for the last 17 minutes of the impressive victory, and he will be hoping to clock some further minutes in Monday’s repeat fixture in Shrewsbury.
