Manchester United will reportedly attempt to push Anthony Martial abroad.
According to the Daily Mail, Manchester United won’t sell forward Anthony Martial to a Premier League rival this summer amid interest from Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur.
Martial, 22, was a shock big-money signing for United in September 2015, and he enjoyed a dream first season with the club, hitting 17 goals in all competitions.
However, the French forward has struggled to replicate that success under Jose Mourinho, starting just 26 games in all competitions, but his record of nine goals and five assists in the Premier League shows the quality he has.
A summer move looks inevitable for Martial given his bit-part role under Mourinho, but the Daily Mail report that United won’t sell him to a Premier League rival as they fear such a move would come back to bite them.
Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur are interested, but will seemingly find that Martial is unavailable to them, with Juventus and Napoli potentially looking to pounce on that stance.
The London Evening Standard reported earlier this week that Martial is a top target for Spurs and Mauricio Pochettino, but the new reports suggest that Tottenham may have to come up with something special to stand any chance of a deal.
Paying a huge fee for Martial seems unlikely given Daniel Levy’s usual approach to transfers, but the chance to offer up a part-exchange deal seems like the only way to soften United’s stance.
Toby Alderweireld, Danny Rose, Eric Dier and Victor Wanyama are just a handful of Spurs players to have been linked with moves to Old Trafford, and Tottenham may have to put together a package of money plus one of those players in order to lure Martial away from Old Trafford and bring him to North London.
