According to CalcioMercato, Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Max Aarons, and that is a very exciting prospect for the London club.
Spurs being linked with Aarons is nothing new. They were linked in the summer, while they were also reportedly keen back in 2019, but under Antonio Conte, this rumour is a lot more exciting.
Indeed, the idea of signing Aarons as a right-wing-back in Conte’s system is mouth-watering, especially when you consider the impact Sergio Reguilon is already having on the other side.
Reguilon has been brilliant under Conte, he has a goal and an assist in three Premier League appearances, and if Aarons is given the same level of offensive freedom down the right, this could be an incredibly fruitful wing-back duo.
Think about it, Conte’s teams have often been defined by their wing-backs, Victor Moses and Marcos Alonso were both key players at Chelsea, while Achraf Hakimi was undoubtedly one of Inter’s best players last season.
Aarons has the ability to emulate the likes of Hakimi and Moses. This is a player who has previously been coveted by Bayern Munich, and at the age of just 21, he has so much room to grow and improve.
Emerson Royal hasn’t enjoyed the best of starts under Conte, but perhaps if Spurs can land Aarons this summer we’ll see the full range of what the Italian’s wing-back system can produce.
Heung-Min Son and Harry Kane have been the main men for years at Tottenham, but it could be Aarons and Reguilon that end up defining the Conte-era in north London.
