The Tottenham Hotspur duo impressed on Sunday afternoon.

Jan Vertonghen has told Tottenham Hotspur’s official website that he and team-mate Kevin Wimmer shared a laugh about something after Sunday’s 1-1 draw at Arsenal.

It ended all square at the Emirates Stadium yesterday as Wimmer’s first-half own goal was cancelled out by Harry Kane’s penalty early in the second half.

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino named a three-man defence as Eric Dier, Vertonghen and the Austrian performed superbly to keep out Arsenal’s attackers.

Wimmer joined the club in the summer of 2015 but it was the first time that the pair had played with one another.

The 23-year-old impressed in the Spurs side last season, but it was alongside Toby Alderweireld – who was injured yesterday – due to Vertonghen’s injury.

And the Belgian defender has told Tottenham’s website that he and his fellow defender had a laugh about the fact it was their first game together after so long.

He said: “The system worked very well, the defence felt very strong and we just needed a bit more luck, but we can be positive today.

“It’s something to keep in mind. Kevin had a very good game, it’s the first time we’ve played together! We had a bit of a laugh about that.”

The Lilywhites are five points behind Premier League leaders Liverpool, though an Arsenal win would have had them six behind the Gunners and the Reds at the summit.
