Tottenham Hotspur have sent in a bid for Wolfsburg defender Micky van de Ven but are in contact over Bayer Leverkusen’s Piero Hincapie.

Micky van de Ven to Tottenham Hotspur isn’t going away but Piero Hincapie’s name is now back in the mix.

That is according to Tuttomercatoweb, who claim that Spurs have put an offer on the table for Wolfsburg defender Van de Ven.

It’s stated that Tottenham have offered €30million (£26million) plus bonuses for Van de Ven.

However, Wolfsburg are seeking a deal worth around €40million (£34million) for the Dutchman.

That means there is a gap to be bridged as Tottenham attempt to bring Van de Ven to North London.

90Min reported last week that Tottenham were confident of signing Van de Ven and they now seem to be ramping up their move.

Piero Hincapie emerges as Tottenham target again

TMW’s report also claims that Tottenham are in contact over a number of other defenders, including Leverkusen star Hincapie.

We have seen Leverkusen defender Edmond Tapsoba heavily linked with a move to North London.

Yet now it’s Tapsoba’s teammate Hincapie being touted for Tottenham.

It’s claimed that Leverkusen would take a fee of around €30million (£26million) for Hincapie.

That would make him cheaper than the apparent price tag for Van de Ven and that could prove to be vital.

Hincapie has been linked with Tottenham on a number of occasions and the Ecuadorian is allegedly still on the radar.

Micky van de Ven should be Tottenham’s choice over Piero Hincapie

Hincapie is a very promising young defender but we feel Van de Ven is the man for Tottenham.

Hincapie is a natural left-footer just like Van de Ven and has largely split his time between playing at centre back and left back.

The 21-year-old is a little rash at times though and he was sent off three times in 30 Bundesliga games last season.

Compared to Cristian Romero, Hincapie has plenty of developing to do and may be a better fit for a back three than a back four.

Van de Ven is much bigger and much more powerful, and seems a better fit for the back four Ange Postecoglou wants to play at Tottenham.

The Dutchman is tall, rapid and comfortable on the ball, so we would prioritise him over Hincapie if we were in Postecoglou’s shoes.
