Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Dele Alli returned to form with a fine performance against Chelsea on Sunday.

Tottenham legend David Howells sat down for an exclusive interview with the club’s official website, and raved about the quality of Dele Alli, labelling the young Englishman as a ‘special player’.

Amazingly, the 21-year-old has received criticism from some sections of the media this season, despite recording some fairly impressive numbers, and that can only be viewed as a sign of his quality.

Dele has chalked up 12 goals and 16 assists in 43 appearances in all competitions this season for Spurs, and his performance against Chelsea on Sunday served as a gentle reminder of just how important he is to Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

Howells, who made 335 appearances for the Lilywhites during a 12-year spell with the club, offered high words of praise for the England international, labelling him as a ‘sensational player’, as quoted by the club’s official website:

“It takes a special player to be able to score a goal like Dele’s first, and he’s a special player. Dele’s a sensational player.”

Tottenham still have a battle on their hands to finish inside the top four in the Premier League table, as well as an FA Cup semi-final against Manchester United to look forward to, and if they are to have any chance of finishing the season successfully, Dele will have to be at his very best between now and May.
