Don’t be surprised if Gareth Bale joining Tottenham Hotspur is suddenly being spoken about again this summer.

Bale has officially left newly-crowned European champions Real Madrid after a nine-year spell at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The former Tottenham attacker only managed 283 minutes of league football under Carlo Ancelotti last season and has left the Spanish capital on a Bosman.

Given that he’ll be available for absolutely nothing – well, aside from his enormous wages – there’s bound to be speculation about Spurs signing the 32-year-old for a third time.

Bale, who quit the Lilywhites in 2013 to join Real, returned to North London on a season-long loan under Jose Mourinho for the 2020-21 campaign but, despite glimpses of his ability, wasn’t retained by chairman Daniel Levy.

Back in February, Tuttomercatoweb did indeed report – as covered by HITC Sport – that Levy would re-sign the Wales international for a third time this summer.

However, Alasdair Gold, who exclusively covers Tottenham for Football London, has revealed today that although Fabio Paratici is an admirer of the jet-heeled attacker, another fairytale transfer wouldn’t be possible.

Gareth Bale not joining Tottenham Hotspur – for the best?

Honestly, probably.

Nobody is denying that Bale was a sensational footballer for this club once upon a time, but his patchy form during returning on loan was a big indicator that he was a declining force and no doubt that’ll be more evident now, more than a year on since he last pulled on a Tottenham shirt.

It might be different had he been constantly involved at Real this past season, but he barely featured and for that reason, Spurs would be wise to steer well clear of the Welshman, who turns 33 this month.
