Tottenham have scouted Stuttgart’s Benjamin Pavard – is the youngster a long-term replacement for Toby Alderweireld?

Tottenham Hotspur sent scouts to watch Benjamin Pavard in action for Stuttgart during their 3-2 Bundesliga victory against Cologne, reports German publication Bild.

Pavard has yet to miss a single minute of competitive football in the top flight of Germany this season, playing in all 25 league games to date and greatly impressing.

The 21-year-old earned the first of his two senior France caps to date in November last year as a result and now Spurs are considering adding the youngster to their squad.

End of Alderweireld?

This interest in a centre-back could add further fuel to the speculation that Toby Alderweireld will leave North London this summer as the Belgium international’s contract talks continue to falter.

According to the Sun, Manchester United are ready to swoop for Alderweireld with Tottenham unwilling to match the 29-year-old’s £140,000-a-week wage demands.

Is Tottenham looking at a younger player in the mould of their current defensive star an indication that they are planning for a future without him?
