Spurs are yet to move into their new stadium and are waiting on a date.
Paul Miller has told Love Sport Radio that he has been informed from within his former side Tottenham Hotspur that the club’s brand new stadium will officially open in February 2019.
Spurs were expected to move into their new home at the start of the 2018-19 season, before October was touted around as a possible move-in date.
However, spiralling costs and extra work have meant that Spurs have missed their targets of September’s clash with Liverpool and December’s outing against Burnley. Now, February is the new aim.
The new stadium, which has cost £237million more than Spurs’ £400million budget (Independent) is set to hold more than 62,000 seats and Tottenham legend Miller spoke of what he has heard from inside Tottenham, about the stadium.
“When it’s ready, it’s ready,” Miller said. “It will be done very soon. You see it everyday on social media, it looks magnificent. I’m sure it’s not a long way off.
“I’ve certainly been informed from within the club that we are looking at February as the start date, so it still gives us three months. So if you look at it, it will have taken 21 months. To build a stadium of that size, in the same site, is wonderful.
“It’s a great thing that we’re all looking forward to.”
On the pitch, Spurs have started the Premier League campaign in fine form, winning eight of their 11 Premier League matches and sitting in fourth place. Harry Kane’s brace also kept their Champions League hopes alive on Tuesday.
Now, Spurs face a tough task to go to Selhurst Park and pick up a ninth league win of the season on Saturday evening, as they look to keep up with the Premier League’s front runners in Liverpool, Manchester City and Chelsea.
