The Spurs gave Air Corgi a Finals-stage salute on Wednesday night, but the viral dog’s latest prediction did not survive Game 1.

San Antonio leaned into the moment at Frost Bank Center after a Western Conference Finals run that turned a corgi into playoff folklore.

The tribute carried because Air Corgi had become a symbol of belief, and Game 1 gave Spurs fans a chance to celebrate the strangest perfect streak of their postseason.

Air Corgi becomes a Spurs playoff folk hero

A fan on X showed Air Corgi receiving a standing ovation from Spurs fans during Game 1 of the NBA Finals, with the crowd recognizing the dog that perfectly picked each Western Conference Finals game against Oklahoma City.

That was the charm of the moment. The Spurs had survived a seven-game fight with the Thunder, and Air Corgi’s run gave fans something light, strange, and fully their own.

In a postseason defined by Victor Wembanyama’s first Finals charge and San Antonio’s return to the biggest stage, a viral dog still found a lane into the story.

Spurs fans had found an unofficial mascot for the ride. Air Corgi did not score, defend, or make an adjustment, but the perfect Thunder series prediction made the dog a small hero inside the fandom.

Air Corgi’s NBA Finals magic stalls early

The magic did not last, and Yahoo Sports showed Air Corgi picking San Antonio to win Game 1 before New York left Frost Bank Center with a 105-95 road win.

The Knicks did not just steal the opener. They came back from a 14-point deficit, with Jalen Brunson driving the fourth-quarter response and New York taking a 1-0 lead in the series.

Wembanyama still had a loud Finals debut with 26 points, 12 rebounds, and three blocks, but the Spurs needed cleaner offense. San Antonio shot 36 percent from the field and finished with only 16 assists.

That is where Game 2 becomes bigger than a correction for Air Corgi’s bracket. The Spurs need more movement, more poise late in possessions, and a faster response when the Knicks load up on Wembanyama.

New York arrives Friday with the road win banked and a chance to put real pressure on San Antonio before the series shifts. The Spurs still have time to make the Finals feel like their stage again, but Air Corgi’s perfect run is gone.
