Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with Steven Bergwijn.
PSV Eindhoven boss Mark van Bommel has told Voetbal Primeur in the Netherlands that the club doesn’t want to sell star winger Steven Bergwijn to Ajax.
Bergwijn, 21, was in the Ajax youth rans before heading off to PSV Eindhoven in 2011, and he has excelled since making the move.
The speedy winger racked up 15 goals and 13 assists last season, and he is unsurprisingly attracting major interest now.
Voetbal International recently reported that Tottenham Hotspur are keen on Bergwijn, with a bid expected after the Champions League.
There has been no word on such an offer since that game, but the report also noted that Ajax were keen to bring the Amsterdam-born winger back home.
Ajax will have cash to spend this summer, but raiding their bitter rivals for one of their star players would be a bold move.
Now, PSV boss Van Bommel has admitted that he doesn’t want to sell Bergwijn to Ajax at all, even though he was realistic about the possibility of him moving back to his home city.
“We do not want to sell him to Ajax,” said Van Bommel. “Look, if Ajax comes, and they pay the right price, then he will no doubt leave,” he added.
It’s clear that PSV would rather sell to anyone other than Ajax, and that should be indication enough for Spurs that there is a real opportunity to sign the Dutch international if they move quickly.
