Jermain Defoe thinks Tottenham Hotspur fans will be ’surprised’ by Ange Postecoglou’s comments following their 2-0 win over Fulham on Monday night.
With the spotlight well and truly on Tottenham heading into the London derby, given their position, you have thought that all involved would have been overjoyed when they picked up all three points yesterday.
That win took Spurs back to the top of the Premier League table, with the players and fans alike smiling with glee, and understandably so – Defoe stated how goalscorer Son Heung-min must be a ‘dream’ to play with.
But not Ange Postecoglou, who went at the throats of his Spurs players for letting their standards drop in the second half, especially the intensity of the team.
Former striker Jermain Defoe thinks that the Spurs faithful will be ‘surprised’ by their manager’s comments, but at the same time, it ‘sends a message to the rest of the dressing room’, as he told Premier League Productions (23/10/23 at 10:25 pm).
It’s a simple case of, yes Spurs are top of the lead and unbeaten after nine Premier League matches, but ‘don’t get carried away’.

Ange Postecoglou’s comments after Tottenham beat Fulham
‘Spurs fans will be listening to that and thinking ‘oh, that’s surprising’,” said Defoe. “But that just shows his standards.
“It’s like ‘yeah, we have won. We are top of the league. But, at the same time, he isn’t happy with the performance. Not happy with the chances they missed’.
“Second half, he said that, in terms of the movement and intensity, it wasn’t the same as the first half.
“I think it sends a message to the rest of the dressing room as well. ‘Don’t get too carried away. You still have so much work to do and we can still improve’, which is good.”

Ange Postecoglou has lifted the dark clouds over Spurs
Did Spurs fans expect a change when Postecoglou arrived? The answer is yes. A more attacking style? Once again, yes.
But not to the levels they are reaching now because it is beyond their wildest dreams.
This is an epic turnaround and one the fans are enjoying every minute of because, why shouldn’t they? It wasn’t so long ago that they were suffering defeats to the likes of Arsenal, Newcastle United, Liverpool, Bournemouth and Brentford.
Yet, here they are well and truly bossing it in the Premier League like they are the champions of England and not Manchester City.
A long way to go, but whilst you are riding the wave, you might as well enjoy it because it won’t be long before people are ready to verbally bash you for losing a few games.
