Tottenham fans have responded to Kyle Walker-Peters’ tweet in the wake of Spurs’ stunning victory over Leicester City on Sunday, insisting that the youngster should be considered as the first choice right-back for next season.

It has been a bizarre season for Walker-Peters. The 21-year-old was man of the match on the opening day of the season but went into the final day having only made one subsequent Premier League appearance for Mauricio Pochettino’s side, with the majority of his game-time this term coming in the FA Cup.

He was given a chance in the clash with Leicester, and was superb as Spurs wrapped up third spot in incredible fashion, beating the Foxes 5-4 in their final home game at Wembley before they move to their new stadium.

Walker-Peters provided two of the assists in the win and staked a genuine claim to be right in the mix for a prominent first-team role next season as he once again claimed the man of the match award.

In response, it is safe to say that there was a lot of love for the youngster from the Spurs fans. Many were full of praise for his performance and the quality that he showed going forward, and others have suggested that Pochettino must push him up the pecking order.

Kieran Trippier has done well, but Serge Aurier has been inconsistent during his first year in England and has come in for a lot of criticism at times, so it seems safe to say that Walker-Peters – who earns £20,000-a-week, according to Spotrac – did an incredible job of making the most of the opportunity.
