The Spurs striker had kind words to say about his attacking teammate but some fans reacted awkwardly to one particular comment.
Tottenham Hotspur striker Fernando Llorente is now in the spotlight as he deputises for Harry Kane and spoke to the official club website about his front line relationship with Son Heung-min.
The Spaniard’s Spurs spell has largely seen him play second fiddle to the more established forwards, as evidenced by his modest tally of 49 club appearances since his summer 2017 move from Swansea City (Transfermarkt).
However, in the absence of Kane, Llorente has started the last three Premier League games for Tottenham, all three of which have resulted in wins, and has contributed to those with one goal and one assist (Transfermarkt).
He scored the late winner against Watford last midweek before setting up Son to do likewise in the club’s 1-0 triumph over Newcastle United on Saturday, and with the South Korean now fully focused on Spurs after his Asian Cup stint, Llorente had some kind words to say about his teammate.
“It’s a good dynamic between me and him – I think we complement each other very well,” the 33-year-old told the official club website. “He has a lot of quality and we have to try to do our best with him now and try to score a lot of goals to help the team.”
The Spurs Twitter account shared Llorente’s interview including the quote about his dynamic with Son, but some Spurs fans remain sceptical of the veteran forward and made their feelings known on the social media platform:
