The Spurs ace impressed for South Korea in the Asian Cup but it proved a bittersweet update for some Lilywhites fans.

Son Heung-Min of South Korea in action during the AFC Asian Cup Group C match between South Korea and China at Al Nahyan Stadium on January 16, 2019 in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

Tottenham Hotspur forward Son Heung-min put in a superb display for South Korea in his first game for his nation since arriving at the Asian Cup.

The 26-year-old earned a penalty and assisted a goal as the Taeguk Warriors beat China 2-0 to finish top of Group C.

South Korea had already qualified following 1-0 wins over the Philippines and Kyrgyzstan but Son helped his country deliver arguably their best performance in the group stage.

The Spurs ace was brought down by China defender Shi Ke in the 12th minute, winning a spot kick which teammate Hwang Ui-jo converted.

Son then delivered again as his corner kick was headed home by Kim Min-jae in the 51st minute of the game, and from then on South Korea had little trouble seeing out the game.

South Korea next play in the round of 16 on January 22, and if they win, they would then compete in the quarter-finals on January 25 and semi-finals on January 29, before the final on February 1.
