Tottenham Hotspur announced on Friday that they had sold Moussa Sissoko.
The France international has left Spurs to join Watford on a permanent basis, after five years in North London.
Sissoko hasn’t been making any squads under Tottenham boss Nuno Espirito Santo and therefore an exit looked very much on the cards.
And his move to the Hornets was confirmed yesterday.
The 32-year-old cost the Lilywhites £30 million back in 2016 and despite a poor first season under Mauricio Pochettino, the former Newcastle United star – who joined as a winger – established himself as a key player in the Argentine’s midfield.
Sissoko had a particularly brilliant 2018-19 campaign, helping the North Londoners to a first-ever Champions League final against all odds.
But his influence and popularity had steadily declined since then, with Pochettino’s departure and Jose Mourinho doing him no favours either.
Here’s how some Tottenham fans reacted to his confirmed exit yesterday:
Paratici cleaning house
Fabio Paratici inherited quite a lot of deadwood when he was appointed as the club’s new managing director this summer.
The onus is on him to start shifting some out and Sissoko could be followed by other big-name players over the coming days, with Serge Aurier and Harry Winks potentially also off.
And although you couldn’t class Tanguy Ndombele as ‘deadwood’ because he’s absolutely brilliant on his day, but the former Lyon midfielder is also reported to have asked to leave the club.
