Several Spurs fans have taken to Twitter to comment on a photo that Tottenham posted showing Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen looking around the new stadium ahead of the club’s first game inside the stunning arena.

While Mauricio Pochettino’s side will be focused on this weekend’s trip to Liverpool, the players and fans would be forgiven for having one eye on the following weekend’s clash with Crystal Palace, which will be the first first-team fixture to be played at the magnificent 62,062-seat stadium.

Although Tottenham may have more important fixtures ahead in the context of this season, it is going to be a defining moment for the club when they walk out at their new home for the first time as they continue their ascent on and off the pitch.

And it appears that some fans are holding out some hope that the stadium move may force Alderweireld to rethink what his future is going to look like.

As reported by The Telegraph, Spurs have triggered a £25 million release clause in the Belgian’s contract ahead of the summer, and as he has previously turned down a long-term extension, it would be a safe bet to assume that he is likely to be on the move at the end of the season.

But after the club posted an image of Alderweireld and Vertonghen taking in Spurs’ new surroundings, there were plenty of fans who wondered if the stadium’s completion could be the kind of factor that tempts Alderweireld to stick around beyond this season.
