Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly monitoring Matthias Ginter.
A number of Spurs fans have taken to Twitter to comment on reports from Sky Sports suggesting that Matthias Ginter is on Tottenham’s radar ahead of the summer transfer window – and it appears that some supporters need to be convinced about the centre-back’s quality.
It looks like there could be some uncertainty at Spurs this summer, with Sky Sports reporting that Toby Alderweireld will be available for £25 million due to a release clause in his contract.
Sky Sports adds that Ginter is one option that Mauricio Pochettino is monitoring in case he wishes to sign a centre-back during the next transfer window, having also wanted the 25-year-old back in 2017 before he moved to Borussia Dortmund.
The news appears to have divided fans on social media. There are some who are very much in favour of a move for Ginter, who was a part of Germany’s World Cup winning squad in 2014.
However, some have major concerns as to whether he would be an adequate replacement for Alderweireld. His spell with Dortmund was not the best, and the Belgian will leave huge boots to fill if he does move on.
And it must be mentioned that Ginter endured a miserable afternoon on Saturday as Borussia Monchengladbach were thrashed 3-0 at home to Hertha Berlin. Gladbach actually had the joint-best defensive record in the Bundesliga before the weekend, but the defeat may well have alarmed some of the Spurs supporters.
