Tottenham Hotspur came up against one of their reported transfer targets on the final day of the Premier League season.

The Sun reported back in April that Tottenham were eyeing a fresh move for Harry Maguire having been interested in the centre-back before he made his move to Leicester City during the previous summer window – as reported by the Daily Mail.

With Toby Alderweireld’s future seemingly up in the air – the London Evening Standard recently suggested that he was widely expected to leave Spurs during the summer – Mauricio Pochettino may need to sign a new centre-back during the coming months, and Maguire would appear to be one of the players that he is considering, though The Sun reported that he has a £50 million price-tag.

The former Hull City ace therefore, got the chance to impress Pochettino on the final day of the Premier League season as the Foxes travelled to Wembley looking to put a dent in Spurs’ hopes of finishing third in the table.

It was an incredible afternoon for a game that did not have too much riding on it as Spurs ran out 5-4 winners, with Harry Kane and Erik Lamela both bagging braces while Christian Fuchs scored an own goal.

Interestingly, despite conceding five, Maguire’s performance at Wembley attracted plenty of praise from the Tottenham fans on social media after the game. He did manage to make a couple of good blocks and challenges and was perhaps unlucky to be on a side that let in so many.

There was also criticism of the 25-year-old from the Spurs fans on Twitter, which suggests that he would have something to prove if anything did come of the links with a potential switch to Pochettino’s men this summer.
