Tottenham’s entire squad may have secured their place in club folklore, but it appears that there are plenty of fans who are hoping that Mauricio Pochettino decides to leave Victor Wanyama out of the lineup that meet Liverpool in the Champions League final next month.

Spurs are heading to Madrid after an incredible second-half comeback in the second-leg of their semi-final tie with Ajax. Trailing 3-0 on aggregate, Tottenham scored three times to go through on away goals.

Lucas Moura bagged the hat-trick, but it was Fernando Llorente’s introduction at the break that made the big difference. And while that was largely down to the Spaniard causing problems for Ajax’s defence, many Spurs fans also felt that it made such a difference as it was Wanyama who he replaced.

The Kenya international endured a terrible night while he was on the pitch. He made a mistake for the home side’s second goal and it was no surprise that Pochettino took him off at the break.

And there are plenty of supporters on social media who have suggested that they may not be overly disappointed if that proves to be the midfielder’s final appearance for the club. The form that he showed during his first couple of years at Tottenham appears to have largely deserted him.

And some fans are hoping that he will not be named in the starting lineup against Liverpool when the two Premier League sides meet in the final in the Spanish capital.
