Mauricio Pochettino’s comments on Moussa Sissoko have prompted responses from Tottenham fans.

Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has told The Guardian that midfielder Moussa Sissoko must do more to earn a place in the team, prompting responses from supporters.

Spurs lost 2-1 away at London rivals Chelsea on Saturday evening, with Pochettino’s men squandering a 1-0 lead to lose at Stamford Bridge – and much of the post-match talk has surrounded the absence of Sissoko.

The French international was a last-gasp deadline day signing for Spurs, and whilst he impressed for France at Euro 2016, there were huge questions over his signature given that he struggled so much for Newcastle in their relegation campaign last season.

The London Evening Standard reported at the time that Tottenham agreed a £30m deal for Sissoko – five instalments of £6m – with manager Pochettino pushing for his signature on the final day of the transfer window.

So far though, Sissoko has flattered to deceive at White Hart Lane. With no goals and no assists, Sissoko has failed to contribute in the final third, whilst a recent elbow on Bournemouth’s Harry Arter saw him pick up a three-game suspension.

Now, Pochettino has told The Guardian that Sissoko was left out of Saturday’s squad for tactical reasons, and stated that the midfielder must prove that he deserves a place in the squad moving forward.

Since the Argentinian made such surprising quotes on Sissoko, Tottenham fans have taken to Twitter to react, with many believing that it was chairman Daniel Levy who wanted to sign Sissoko more than Pochettino.

Some suggested that Sissoko is already fighting for his Tottenham future, with a comparison made to Daniel Osvaldo, a player who Pochettino signed at Southampton but quickly let go due to his attitude and behaviour.

However, a number of Tottenham fans feel that Sissoko has been unfairly singled out by Pochettino, as many players – including Christian Eriksen – are struggling as well, with the Spurs boss being blamed for his tactics too.
