Martin Keown has accused Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane of dangerous play on Match of the Day 2, which was broadcast by the BBC.

Kane received a controversial penalty yesterday, after Adam Lallana clattered into his back.

The Tottenham striker moved into a position where he made it impossible for Lallana to get to the ball, and when the Brighton midfielder jumped for the ball he quickly went down under contact.

Kane had glanced at Lallana twice, and appeared more intent with blocking the Brighton player than going for the ball.

The challenge, at full speed, looked like a foul – but when slowed down, there was more cause for debate.

And Keown has criticised that Tottenham striker, even though he knows it’ll annoy Spurs fans.

“Harry Kane, I believe knows exactly what he’s doing here. Spurs fans, don’t tune in, because what I’m going to say now,” he said.

“For me he looks at his opponent and is trying to make a little back for him.

“I think it’s dangerous play on Lallana but no, no, no the referee doesn’t understand the game well enough and he gets a penalty.”

Kane ended up tucking away the penalty, as Tottenham went on to win 2-1.

Gareth Bale scored the winning goal late on, as Jose Mourinho’s side sealed the three points which moved them up to second in the Premier League table.
