Tottenham Hotspur should be lining up a move for Sheffield United’s David Brooks.
Gareth Bale has made headlines once again on Saturday night as his brace – a mixture of brilliance and luck – handed Real Madrid a 3-1 Champions League final win over Liverpool.
The Welshman didn’t even start Saturday’s clash in Kiev, but came on at 1-1 after Sadio Mane had cancelled out Karim Benzema’s opener, and Bale ultimately had the biggest impact on the game.
Bale conjured up a stunning overhead kick to put Real Madrid in front, before his long-range effort was fumbled into the net by Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius to win a fourth Champions League in five years.
Having suggested after the game that his future could lie away from the Spanish capital, Spurs fans have been clamouring for Bale to make a return to North London five years since his then-world-record move – but given the money involved in such a deal and his well-documented injury problems in recent years, that seems like a pipedream.
Instead, a much more likely move would be for Spurs to sign another Welsh talent in Sheffield United’s David Brooks, after the Sheffield Star reported that Spurs did register an interest in the playmaker last summer but didn’t make a bid.
Brooks, 20, was on the books with Manchester City before heading to Sheffield United in 2014, and he excelled this season with the Blades, three goals and four assists under Chris Wilder.
A talented attacking midfielder who can also play in attack and loves to take players on, Brooks looks set for a huge future, and given that Tottenham may need another playmaker to develop behind Christian Eriksen, Brooks fits the bill.
Rather than sink huge funds into a deal for Bale, a move for the next Welsh sensation seems far more likely right now – and whilst that may be what Spurs fans want to see change, Brooks should remain on Tottenham’s radar this summer whilst fans focus on Bale.
