Tottenham Hotspur’s Ben Davies has been hailed in Wales Online as a ‘quality’ defender after he helped his side to a 1-0 win over Bulgaria.

The Tottenham man actually wore the armband for his country yesterday, as Ryan Giggs named a very inexperienced line-up.

And the Spurs left-back led by example, as his country secured a late win over Bulgaria.

Davies helped Wales keep a clean sheet in his contest and was praised for his defensive work after the game.

“Brought shape to Wales’ back three after a change of formation by Giggs and was his usual calm, composed self,” Wales Online wrote, before giving him an eight of 10 rating.

“As captain, he was a cool and reassuring presence for the youngsters in the side and had a fine match, leading by example in every sense. Quality defender.”

Davies has also been in good form for Tottenham recently, with the arrival of Sergio Reguilon seemingly pushing him on.

Reguilon has put real pressure on Davies’s spot in the Tottenham team, and the former Swansea City man is refusing to give up his place easily.

Davies came off the bench to win Tottenham a penalty against Manchester United and also provided two assists in their recent Europa League win over Maccabi Haifa.

Despite his good form, it would be a surprise if Davies is selected to start at the weekend, when Spurs take on West Ham United.
