Danny Rose has confirmed that he spoke to another club about leaving Tottenham Hotspur last summer.

Danny Rose has told Sky Sports (broadcast on 27/4 from 11:30) that he was speaking to another club about a potential move last summer, while he also shared what Mauricio Pochettino told him as he ended up staying at Tottenham.
Rose’s future with Spurs has been a talking point for a few years now. The 28-year-old has long been considered one of the finest left-backs in the Premier League, and there have been various times when it has looked like he may be on the move.
But Rose is back to being a key man for Tottenham after a difficult time with injuries and is on course to make more than 20 Premier League starts in a season for the first time since the 2015/16 campaign.
And he has confirmed that he is back to enjoying playing again as he explained how close he came to leaving Spurs shortly after helping England reach the semi-finals in Russia last year.

“I am enjoying my football,” he told Sky Sports. “After the World Cup, there was talk of me moving on. I was speaking to another club, which obviously Tottenham know about. But it didn’t happen. I called the manager after the World Cup and he just said to me, ‘you’re welcome to stay, but you have to get your head down. You have to work hard and everybody’s going to start from afresh’.”
With Rose back towards his best and Spurs continuing to move in the right direction, it does now not seem too far-fetched to suggest that the former Leeds trainee could spend the rest of his career at the highest level playing for Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

There was a time where that scenario would have almost seemed unthinkable, and of course, there may perhaps be events behind the scenes which make that outcome less likely.
But with Rose proving to be one of the most open players around, it seems particularly telling that he has stated that he is back to enjoying football at the moment, at a time when Tottenham fans have so much to be positive about.
