Inter Milan are reportedly confident of signing Tottenham’s Erik Lamela this summer.
Tottenham’s Erik Lamela
According to The Mirror, Inter Milan are keen to land Tottenham Hotspur winger Erik Lamela this summer – and believe he could be signed for just £10million.
Lamela, 25, was famously signed by Spurs back in 2013 following Gareth Bale’s move to Real Madrid, and he was touted as a huge signing having hit 21 goals in 67 games for Roma.
The Argentinian made a slow start to life in North London with just one goal in 17 appearances in his first season, but he has gradually improved to become a key first-team player under Mauricio Pochettino.
Having notched 11 goals and nine assists last season, Lamela was tipped for a huge season this term – but it has turned into a nightmare for the wide man, who hasn’t played since October due to hip problems.
Lamela was today ruled out for the rest of the season, but there are some that believe Lamela may have played his final game for the club given that The Mirror claim Inter Milan are keen to lure him back to Italy this summer.
The report states that Inter believe they can snap up Lamela for just £10million this summer, which would mark a huge £20million loss for Spurs having paid £30million (Sky Sports) to land Lamela in 2013.
Tottenham’s Erik Lamela
Inter may be hoping to use Lamela’s torrid season to land him on the cheap, but Spurs should be rejecting any offers in the region of £10million, given the current market and how much wingers of Lamela’s quality tend to cost.
Injuries or no injuries, Lamela has been improving year-on-year at White Hart Lane, and he is so crucial to Pochettino’s pressing style that Spurs certainly shouldn’t be facing a £20million loss on the Argentinian international.
Tottenham’s best course of action is to give Lamela time to recover from his injury hell and see how he fares in pre-season, as the winger’s contract – which expires in 2018 – could tempt Daniel Levy into a sale should Inter come knocking this summer.
