Tottenham want a centre-back this summer, that much has been evident for a long time, and if reports from Football London are to be believed, Joachim Andersen could be the man they target.

The Danish defender has spent this season on loan at Fulham, and while the Whites have struggled this term, Andersen has been a standout performer.

Indeed, Fulham may be 18th in the table, but their defence has been amongst the best in the division since Andersen’s emergence, conceding just 19 goals in the last 20 league games, that’s a tally only bettered by Chelsea, Man City and Man Utd.

Andersen has been at the heart of that, taking the captain’s armband for the majority of the campaign, and he’s proven he’s certainly good enough to play for a top side.

Luckily, Tottenham won’t have negotiate with Fulham to complete this deal. The defender is on loan from Lyon, and with Andersen being out of favour in France and the financial situation for clubs in Ligue 1 being perilous, this looks like a very doable deal.

Spurs signing a top-class centre-half from a European club after shining for a smaller Premier League side? Where have we heard that one before?

This is exactly what Spurs did with Toby Alderweireld after his incredible season with Southampton back in 2014/15, and if they repeat the same trick by hijacking Fulham’s hopes of bringing Andersen in permanently, it could pay off in a similar way.

Alderweireld looked to be solid at Southampton, but it was at Spurs where he really came into his own, playing alongside other quality players, and if Andersen comes in, there’s no reason why he can’t do the same.

If Daniel Levy plays his cards right, he could repeat the trick that saw Alderweireld come to Spurs, and this is a move that could pay off in a similar way.
