Tottenham Hotspur’s Toby Alderweireld is being linked with Barcelona.

Tottenham Hotspur face a number of transfer decisions in 2019, as Mauricio Pochettino needs to bring in new signings, but some players are expected to be on the move too.
Mousa Dembele and Michel Vorm are both out of contract next summer, as is Toby Alderweireld – though the situation surrounding his future is a little more complex.
The Belgian international is scheduled to have his one-year contract option activated this summer, but a £25million release clause will become available for a short period of time.
Clubs are now interested in signing Alderweireld either in January or when that clause is available, and The Mirror report that Barcelona are now looking to sign him.
Barca want a new centre back, and it’s believed that they’re putting their interest in Ajax defender Matthijs de Ligt to one side in order to target Alderweireld.
Losing Alderweireld would be a blow for Spurs, but if they sell him to Barca, they could take over as the favourites to snap up De Ligt in 2019, having been heavily linked earlier this year and remain keen according to Football.London.

De Ligt, 19, is one of the most talented teenagers in the world, and would be able to rekindle his partnership with Spurs star Davinson Sanchez in the heart of the Spurs back line.
There will still be other clubs keen on De Ligt, but if Spurs do cash in on Alderweireld, put Barcelona out of the race for De Ligt and press hard to spend the cash on the Dutchman, many Spurs fans would accept that the long-term benefits make the moves sensible.
