Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly keen on Napoli’s Jorginho.
Tottenham Hotspur ended their season with a bizarre 5-4 home win over Leicester City this afternoon, bringing the curtain down on another mostly successful campaign for Mauricio Pochettino.
Spurs have again qualified for the Champions League, and the club face a big summer given that they are moving into their new stadium, with fans hoping for major additions.
However, Spurs may need to sell players in order to fund moves for new signings, and the Daily Mail recently reported that Tottenham are prepared to sell star midfield duo Victor Wanyama and Mousa Dembele.
A new midfielder would be needed, and the Daily Mail report that Tottenham are in the race to sign Napoli midfielder Jorginho, rivalling Arsenal, Manchester City and Manchester United for his signature.
Jorginho is reportedly valued at around £53million, which would make him Tottenham’s record signing – and it would also be a huge signal of intent for Spurs in such a big summer.
The Italian international, 26, has emerged as one of the top deep-lying playmakers in Europe, and he would bring a new dimension to the Spurs midfield, providing an outstanding passing range that Dembele and Wanyama can’t bring.
Selling two popular players in Dembele and Wanyama would leave Spurs fans concerned, but if Tottenham can swoop and beat Pep Guardiola to signing one of the most in-demand midfielders in Jorginho, then it may just be a sign that Spurs do still have big plans moving forward.
